Kid Paint

Painting with kids is AWESOME.

They are so less inhibited, and willing to let things be. Or sometimes they cry because things aren’t perfect. Either way, it’s different than painting with adults or even older kids. The biggest difference is the mess factor, even if it is only accidentally so. For a successful paint party with the elementary-on-down crowd, consider:

01

Space

A general rule of thumb: the younger they are, the more space they will need. Also in my experience, if working with those younger than 5 you will likely have more success at a party with a craft! I can do handprint paintings!

02

Movement

All kids are different, but they are typically more flexible – and energetic- than adults. That means you could probably have them work on the floor and they would be fine. I would be, too.

Paint

We paint with acrylic – which means it is permanent on fabrics. Besides tablecloths(if using tables) I can bring a tarp for the floor. Kids also use extra-large t-shirts with ties instead of aprons. I can use washable tempera, but the results are not nearly as nice.

Assistance

If there are more than 10 kids in a group, an assistant would benefit everyone, to help replenish paint or make sure Sally is not painting on Timmy’s picture. A side-by-side painting experience with a parent or older sibling is also an option, no extra charge!
